En el apartado de Mejor banda sonora original), hay una lista de quince candidatos. S\u00f3lo los miembros de la rama musical de la Academia votan para determinar la lista de candidatos y finalistas. El compositor alem\u00e1n Hans Zimmer \u2013ganador en 1995 del Oscar por la Mejor banda sonora original por <em>El rey le\u00f3n<\/em>\u2013 y el ingl\u00e9s Jonny Greenwood \u2013integrante de la banda Radiohead\u2013 figuran como candidatos por dos bandas sonoras distintas, <em>Dune<\/em> y <em>Sin tiempo para morir<\/em>, en el caso del primero, y <em>El poder del perro<\/em> y <em>Spencer<\/em>, en el del segundo. El espa\u00f1ol Alberto Iglesias tambi\u00e9n figura como candidato, por su banda sonora creada para la pel\u00edcula de Pedro Almod\u00f3var <em>Madres paralelas<\/em>.
