Murcof inaugurates a short cycle of six electronic music concerts at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid.
Murcof, the stage name of the Mexican composer Fernando Corona, is in charge of inaugurating a short cycle of six concerts of electronic music that will be offered until June in the Teatros del Canal. After Murcof, who performs tomorrow Wednesday at 9 p.m., it will be the turn of Chloé (8 February), Acid Arab (12 March), Frank Bretschneider (30 May), Dasha Rush (6 June) and Byetone (9 June).
The opening show is titled The Alias Sessions, Live A/V, and is based on the music Murcof composed for two dance shows created by Alias, the dance company of Brazilian-Swiss choreographer Guilherme Botelho, Contre-Mondes (2017) and Normal (2018). These soundtracks also gave rise to a video performance, A/V, created by the Spanish visual artist Sergi Palau from images taken from Guillherme Bothelo’s choreographies, which premiered live on 5 October 2019 at the Lunchmeat Festival in Prague. It is by no means a filmed choreography, but rather Palau used the images as raw material for further processing and deconstruction, thus creating a completely new narrative and dramaturgy that results in a surreal and dreamlike visual experience.
Murcof also released in 2021, on The Leaf Label, an album entitled The Alias Sessions, which includes the two soundtracks composed for Contre-Mondes and Normal, a total of an hour and a half of music. However, what will be played live at the Live A/V show, less than 50 minutes long, corresponds exclusively to the first “side” of the album, Contra-Mondes.
