Minimalist concert by the Labèque sisters.
The Labèque sisters, Katia and Marielle, perform this Thursday, 21 October, at 19:30, at the Royal Festival Hall in London, together with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Lawrence Renes, a programme consisting almost entirely of pieces by Philip Glass, with the addition of the Doctor Atomic Symphony by John Adams – the shortened, 25-minute version of the opera of the same title premiered by Adams in 2005. Glass’ programme includes the Prelude from his opera Akhnaten, the Double Concerto for Two Pianos & Orchestra that the Baltimore composer dedicated in 2015 to the Labèque sisters, and the abridged version of the opera Les enfants terribles, which the French sisters released last year on Deutsche Grammophon.
