Gavin Bryars’ vigil for the homeless.
In 2018, the Gavin Bryars Ensemble, together with Choir with No Name and Streetwise Opera, performed Bryars’ popular repetitive composition Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet at the annual vigil at St Martin in the Fields Anglican Church – located on the north-east corner of London’s Trafalgar Square – in tribute to the homeless who had died the previous year. Last year he was due to speak again, but covid-19 restrictions prevented him from doing so. Finally, the Reverend Richard Carter has this year invited Bryars and his ensemble to re-perform his iconic composition at a ceremony open to the public on Thursday 4 November at 11am GMT.
