Tribute to the late Antón García Abril.
The Spanish violinist Manuel Guillén will pay tribute tomorrow, Sunday, to the recently deceased Antón García Abril (Teruel, 1933-Madrid, 1921), performing in the auditorium of CentroCentro Seis partitas para violín solo –Heart, Inmensity, Love, Art, Reflective and You– composed by García Abril, who died this past spring of covid at the age of 87. The concert, to be held at 12:00 noon, is part of the programme of the 23rd edition of the Festival de Música Contemporánea de Madrid (COMA’21).
Antón García Abril was Professor of Composition at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid for thirty years and teacher of several generations of composers. He achieved popularity with his scores for cinema (Sor Citroen or Los santos inocentes) and television (El hombre y la tierra, Brigada central or Anillos de oro), but also included opera, works for symphony orchestra and chamber music, with his song cycles standing out.
