Spanish composer Jorge Grundman stars in New York in a monographic concert of his work, with three world premieres.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 28 September, the Madrid composer Jorge Grundman will be the star of a monographic concert to be held in the Weill Recital Hall of New York’s Carnegie Hall. The concert, which will be performed by flautist Gili Schwarzman, cellist Alisa Weilerstein and pianist Eduardo Frías, will feature three world premieres: the sonata for flute and piano Lagerfeld in Winter, op. 77 and the trios Tan bonita como tú op. 91 and Facing Emotions op. 90. The programme will be completed with the trio De la hermosura y dignidad de nuestras almas, Op. 43 [Of Beauty and Dignity of Our Souls, Op. 43 (US Premiere)] and the sonata for flute and piano Warhol in Springtime op. 18. Except for Facing Emotions, the other four pieces are part of Jorge Grundman, Flute Works, the album released last Friday by Sony Classical which also includes his Concerto for flute and orchestra “On the Back of a Nightingale”, Op 31.
The musical career of Jorge Grundman (Madrid, 1961) began in 1979 when he joined Farenheit 451, which was the band in charge of opening the legendary Concierto de Primavera, considered the founding moment of the Movida madrileña. In the group’s brief career (it disbanded in 1982) they had time to release an album under their own name and several songs on compilations published by MR, the first record label of the famous talent scout Paco Martín, who launched Hombres G to stardom. Later, in 1983, Grundman started another group, Trópico de Cáncer, before beginning a musical career as an instrumental composer and as a collaborator of the Lebanese violinist Ara Malikian.
