Alicia Díaz de la Fuente is chosen as the winner of the 2022 National Music Prize in the category of composition.
The Spanish composer Alicia Díaz de la Fuente (Madrid, 1967) has won the National Music Prize 2022, in the composition category, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport, with a prize of 30,000 euros.
The jury highlighted “the colour and subtlety of timbre of her compositions”, as well as “her dialogue with other arts” in works such as Ecos del pensamiento or Y la mañana se llenó de luz, a commission from the OCNE which premiered last April at the Auditorio Nacional de Música.
In addition to Joan Francesc Marco and Antonio Garde Herce – Director General of INAEM and Deputy Director General of Music and Dance, respectively – the jury was made up of Daniel Bianco, Artistic Director of the Teatro de la Zarzuela; Montserrat Faura, Director of the Festival de Torroella de Montgrí; Ana Mateo, Manager of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias and President of the Asociación Española de Orquestas Sinfónicas (AEOS); Judith Ortega, musicologist and researcher at the Complutense Institute of Musical Sciences; the guitarist and composer Pilar Rius, co-director of the Ex Corde International Music Festival (proposed by the Association of Women in Music); the composers Jesús Rueda and Jesús Torres, as well as Gabriel Erkoreka and Montserrat Torrent, winners of the 2021 National Music Awards in the Composition and Performance categories, respectively.
Alicia Díaz de la Fuente studied Organ and Composition at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid and holds a PhD in Philosophy from the UNED. She also took courses in Composition and Musical Analysis with Luis de Pablo, Salvatore Sciarrino, Brian Ferneyhough, Tristan Murail, Gérard Grisey and Helmut Lachenmann, among others.
She is currently Professor of Composition at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, where she teaches Composition and Analysis of 20th and 21st century music at undergraduate and Master’s level.
