Sofie Birch and Antonina Nowacka present their collaborative album “Languoria” at La Casa Encendida.
Danish composer Sofie Birch and Polish experimental singer and sound artist Antonina Nowacka participated in August 2021 at the Polish experimental music festival Ephemera in Warsaw. The excellent results of the improvised joint work, in which Birch’s simple ambient musical proposals provided the ideal backdrop for Nowacka’s ethereal vocal expressiveness, led to a further joint concert at the more developed Unsound festival in Krakow – using electronics and old stringed instruments (autoharp, zither, guitar), which they exchange – and eventually led to a proposal for the recording of their first collaborative album, Languoria, released in October last year on the Polish label Mondoj.
With less than ten concerts performed in their joint career, but in such emblematic venues as the Bourse de Commerce de Paris of the Pinault Foundation or the Barbican Center in London, Birch and Nowacka will perform this Saturday, at 21:00, at La Casa Encendida in Madrid, as part of the exhibition Picasso: Sin Título / Con… which commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the Spanish artist. The exhibition, which according to its organisers “overflows the exhibition hall and proposes a multidisciplinary re-reading of the artist and his work”, features Birch and Nowacka as co-authors of the concert that serves as the soundtrack for the exhibition, in a meditative and dreamy show.
