The American cellist Maya Beiser, founder of Bang on a Can All Stars, the live extension of the Bang On A Can collective formed by Julia Wolfe, David Lang and Michael Gordon, has just released Maya Beiser x Philip Glass on her own label, Islandia Music. The instrumentalist has worked regularly with Philip Glass in the past: she was the solo cellist on the score of Naqoyqatsi on the Philip Glass Ensemble’s 2005 world tour. On Maya Beiser x Philip Glass, her fourteenth solo album, she has included her own arrangements of four sections of Naqoyqatsi, along with Glass’s Etudes No. 2 and No. 5 for piano and Music in Similar Motion and Mad Rush, adapted for cello.
