“For George Lewis”, by Tyshawn Sorey.
The American composer and multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey releases today, on the Cantaloupe label -founded in 2001 by Bang On A Can and Kenny Savelson, director of the Bang On A Can festival-, a double album in which he has counted on the musical interpretation of the contemporary chamber music orchestra Alarm Will Sound. It consists of two very different parts; the first, For George Lewis, is dedicated to the work of the American trombonist (Chicago, 1952), while the second, Autoschediasms, is inspired by the work of the late jazz cornetist and composer Lawrence “Butch” Morris. The two discs will be premiered live this Sunday at 19:30 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music as part of the TIME:SPANS Festival, with Tyshawn Sorey conducting the instrumentalists of Alarm Will Sound.
