The Code Modern festival opens in Bavaria.
Sunday sees the launch of Code Modern, a two-year pilot project to bring contemporary music to rural Bavaria, with concerts in churches and museums. The project is the brainchild of violinist Carolin Widmann and cultural manager Birgit Chlupacek, with musical direction by Spanish composer and conductor Armando Merino. The programme on Sunday 26 September features the world premieres of two works commissioned by Code Modern from German composers Moritz Eggert (Counting Dances for cimbalom and the brass quartet Collegium Novum Zurich) and KP Werani (ouvir, Ferrer – the fine differences for bandoneon and the string quintet Ensemble Sillages). The programme is completed with Synaptic Arpeggiator by Minas Borboudakis, Dust by Rebecca Saunders and Da Capo by Péter Eötvos.
