World premiere of Sánchez Verdú’s “Purgatorio”

The Spanish composer José María Sánchez Verdú (Algeciras, 1968) premieres Purgatorio (Der Läuterungsberg) today at the Schwetzingen Festpiele in Germany. This is the second part of the Comedia cycle, composed to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri and the conclusion of the Divine Comedy. The first part, Inferno, premiered in Heidelberg in 2018, while the third part, Paradiso, will premiere in 2022. Purgatorio will be performed by four vocal soloists of the Schola Heidelberg and six instrumentalists of the Ensemble Aisthesis under the direction of Walter Nussbaum.
