Thomas Adès visits Barcelona’s L’Auditori.
The British pianist, composer and conductor Thomas Adès is the guest of the Auditori de Catalunya this week, in which he will be showing all these aspects of his musical work. On 5 and 6 November, at 19:00, Adès will conduct two concerts in front of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona y Nacional de Cataluña (OBC) to conduct a programme that includes the Spanish premiere of his violin concerto Märchentänze, with the Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto as soloist. The programme is completed with another piece by Adès, Hotel Suite, an orchestral suite based on his two-act chamber opera Powder Her Face, as well as Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1, Der Tanz in der Dorfschenke (The Dance in the Village Tavern) and the suite from the ballet Les biches by Francis Poulenc. Then, on 9 November, Thomas Adès will perform as piano accompanist to tenor Ian Bostridge, playing the 24 lieder from Schubert’s Winterreise.
