Underwater, the latest album by Ludovico Einaudi, is the first solo piano album he has released in twenty years (the previous one, I giorni, appeared in 2001) and the direct result of worldwide confinement during the spring of 2020, an event that the Turin-born composer did not experience as a punishment, but almost as a blessing: a situation that detoxified him from the excessive pace of his own professional life and gave him extra oxygen in an earthly paradise, without deadlines.
