On Monday, the pianist Adrián Blanco performs Joan Magrané’s complete works for piano.
This coming Monday 23 May, at 20:00, the Spanish pianist Adrián Blanco (Santa Coloma de Gramanet, 1991) will offer at the Petit Palau the complete piano works of the Spanish composer Joan Magrané, chosen as the Palau’s guest composer for the 2021-2022 season.
The programme begins with Visions, a work from 2011 based on fragments of verses by San Juan de la Cruz, Santa Teresa de Jesús and Fray Pedro de Encinas. This spiritual air is also breathed in the following two works, inspired by Frederic Mompou – one of the key names in what Magrané calls his “sentimental anthology” of Catalan music, which is also the title of the book of essays he recently published by Peu de Mosca -: Encantaments (2013) and Cançó i dansa (2017). They will be followed by Doble (2015-2016), a work once dedicated precisely to Adrián Blanco, and Fulls d’àlbum (a Enric Granados, unes pàgines d’efemèride) (2016), Dues peces per a piano (2017) and the four Fantasiestücke (composed between 2018-2020).
As the soprano and doctor in musicology Aurèlia Pessarrodona explains in the programme, these are “short, intimate and very personal works, in which Magrané establishes a dialogue with the diverse traditions from which he draws, which has become one of the leitmotifs of his still brief but intense career”.
