World premieres by Spanish composers Joan Valent and Alejandro Pelayo.
The Spanish composers Joan Valent and Alejandro Pelayo will premiere their most recent compositions live tonight. Valent’s Concerto de Tramuntana, for guitar and orchestra, will be performed at 8:00 pm in the Auditorium de Palma de Mallorca by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Baleares, with guitarist Rafael Aguirre as soloist. The work, which will be conducted by Pablo Mielgo, is dedicated to the memory of Mariano Capellà, Joan Valent’s maternal grandfather, and to the father of a good friend of the composer, the guitarist Gabriel Estarellas. It so happens, moreover, that the two honorees were also friends of each other. The work was composed by Valent during the lockdown of the covid-19 pandemic, with the collaboration of Estarellas, when it came to technical aspects of guitar fingering. The concert will be performed again tomorrow, Friday, at 7.30 p.m., in the Auditorium of the Mallorcan town of Manacor.
As for Pelayo, the composer and pianist will offer tonight, at 20:30, in the Sala Mirador in Madrid, the live presentation of his third solo instrumental album, Sobre la piel, an album of instrumental pieces that he defines as “a story of love, desire, tenderness and shared solitude, a story of two bodies entangled under sheets and the different ways of communicating that they find”. The album features string arrangements and electronic and rhythmic elements that until now had not appeared on his albums outside Marlango. In some of the new pieces, there are also occasional collaborations with musicians close to Pelayo: the guitarist Suso Saiz -an international figure in ambient music-, the guitarist of Los Piratas Fon Román, the actress Nur Levi and the guitarist of Vetusta Morla Guille Galván.
