Steve Reich: “In our [20th] century, the greatest artist who ever lived was born in Spain”.

Coinciding with my review on Steve Reich‘s book Conversations, I wanted to recall the interview I conducted with him in 1987, when he visited Madrid to perform at the Autumn Festival. The interview was published in two separate issues of the newspaper Ya, which appeared two days apart, on 13 and 15 October 1987. If in the first one I placed more the character, it is in this second instalment where we find more of his statements, extracted from the talk I had with him in La Casa de la Radio in Prado del Rey. Both “Rescues from the Archive” are my small contribution to the Steve Reich “conversations” published by Hanover Square Press and distributed by Harper Collins Publishers.
