In the absence of Arvo Pärt, the BBVA Foundation awards will be delivered on Tuesday.

The awards ceremony for the XII and XIII editions of the Frontiers of Knowledge Awards will be held on 21 September at the Euskalduna Conference Centre in Bilbao, after the health alert caused by the Covid-19 pandemic made it impossible to hold the event in 2020. The day before, the same venue will host a tribute concert to the winners of the BBVA Foundation awards by the Euskadiko Orkestra, conducted by Robert Treviño. In the music category, the 2019 and 2020 winners were, respectively, the Estonian Arvo Pärt and the Hungarian Péter Eötvös. Both composers will be represented at the concert with their own works: the former, who did not come to collect the award for health reasons, with his Symphony No. 3 (1971), created just before he developed his characteristic “tintinnabuli” style; the latter with his Violin Concerto No. 3 “Alhambra” (2018), dedicated to Isabelle Faust and Pablo Heras-Casado, which will be performed by Giovanni Guzzo.
