Sofia Gubaidulina turns 90 tomorrow.

The Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina turns 90 this Sunday. The anniversary is being celebrated with several international tributes. Yesterday, Friday, for example, Deutsche Grammophon released Dialog: Ich und Du, The Wrath of God & The Light of the End, an album consisting of three pieces recorded for the first time, in which the Latvian Andris Nelsons conducts the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, with the participation as soloist of the Russian violinist Vadim Repim, for whom Gubaidulina dedicated her violin concerto Dialog: Ich und Du. Meanwhile, in Kazan, the capital of her native Tatarstan, where she studied composition and piano and graduated in 1954, a festival focusing on her compositions for symphony and chamber orchestra begins on Monday.
